Kostas Karatzas holds a Diploma and a Doctor degree in Mechanical Engineering, and works mainly in the field of environmental informatics, data analytics and modelling for environmental and engineering applications, urban environment management and information systems, environmental forecasting with the aid of data mining – computational intelligence methods and mathematical models, quality of life – environment related – information services, modular web-based information systems and e-content applications with citizen service orientation. Prof. Karatzas has participated (and led) more than 20 research projects, and has published more than 200 papers in international scientific journals and conference. He served as a member of the International Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of CLEEN’s Measurement, Monitoring and Environmental Efficiency Assessment (MMEA) research programme, as a member of the board of the International Environmental Modelling & Software Society, and as an Associate Member of the OGC. Kostas has also been serving as a member of various scientific and advisory boards in International Conferences in the area of Environmental Informatics and Computational Intelligence for more than 15 years and has/is supervising a number of PhD and MSc thesis in the area of Environmental Informatics-environmental information analysis and modelling. From 2017 he is a co-editor of a new Springer book series titled “Environmental Informatics and Modelling”.
